The club occasionally rents its facilities to private parties for receptions, weddings and other social activities.  The cluhouse can get booked up well in advance, so it would be prudent to contact us about rentals as far in advance as possible.  For detailed information about capacity, equipment, etc., please read our rental information or contact the Rental Agent.

The maximum capacity in the building for rentals per City of Cambridge Fire Code is 150 persons total (including wait staff, band, etc). Dinner seating in the larger room is between 100 and 120 people tops. Additional guests may be seated in the smaller room. Smoking is not allowed in the building or on the porch. Smokers must be directed towards the area outside the front door (street side).

The CBC is not rented during the entire month of October and days around major holidays - e.g. Labor Day, Thanksgiving, etc.

The CBC is a private club. To visit the venue, appointments should be made thru the rental agent. Please do not just ‘drop by’ without an appointment. It is appreciated.

Equipment on hand:

  • 15 round tables, 5 feet in diameter, 29 inhes high, seating 8 each
  • 6 rectangular tables, 8 feet in length, approx. 2 1/2 feet wide, 29 inches high,  seating 8-10 each
  • 2 rectangular tables, 6 feet in length, approx. 2 1/2 feet wide, 29 inches high,  for serving or additional seating
  • 140 folding white chairs with cushion seats
  • Bar with sink
  • Piano (movable) - tuning of piano at extra charge - talk with rental agent
  • 6 foot movie screen (hangs from ceiling in either large or small room)
  • Stepladder


  • Commercial refrigerator (24 inches x 21 inches x 60 inches tall)
  • Commercial convection oven with 5 trays
  • Commercial electric stove with oven
  • Small freezer (15.5 cubic feet)

If rented items are to be delivered and/or picked up, then rentals must be made through Peterson Party Center or Be Our Guest (below). They are fully equipped and reliable. They have access to the building and can easily make deliveries and pickup without having to contact anyone at the venue.

For non-member rentals, a CBC monitor must be present during all setup and takedown procedures.

Caterers may, of course, bring with them their own equipment and any items that they have rented personally – and will take with them at the end of the event. Peterson Party Center and Be Our Guest customarily deliver on the day of the event prior to the arrival of the catering company to eliminate congestion at the service door. All rented items must be picked up or removed immediately following the event unless special arrangements are made with the Club.

The sinks in the kitchen do not have garbage disposals. We have been having problems with food/grease being put into the sinks. Please do not throw any grease, food, pan drippings, etc. into the sink. Plan ahead - bring containers for hot/cold grease/garbage- and put into the regular plastic trash containers you take with you. This is much appreciated. It is wise to have a designated 'trash person' with a van/truck to take trash, decorations, gifts, etc. at the end of the event.

Two (2) handicapped accessible restrooms are on the first floor. Additional restrooms for men and women are on the second floor.

The space used by rentals includes the two large rooms, porch, kitchen, and all of the restrooms. The grounds, dock, library, rooms on the second floor and second floor balcony are not available.
The building has a heating system. The fireplace may be used with duraflame logs.

The club does not provide any sound/audio/video equipment – the renter must supply everything. A screen is available.

The fee for rentals is $750 per hour, which is charged for the time of the scheduled event, i.e., the time during which guests are present in the venue. There is a three (3) hour event minimum. No charge is made for one hour prior to and one hour after the event for setup and removal. Additional setup time is charged at $75 per hour. In addition, a security deposit of $1,000 must be paid to reserve the date. Security deposits are usually returned within 30 days after the event. The most common reasons for withholding all or part of the security deposit are excessive cleaning (avoid confetti, sparkles, rice, etc.) or running overtime. These items are within the control of the renter and can be avoided. Any rental that extends past midnight will be charged at a rate of 1.5 times the hourly rental fee.

. (NOTE: AS OF FEBRUARY 1, 2016, the per hour rental fee will be $800.00. All other terms/fees remain the same).


Liquor may be served but not sold in any manner, directly, or indirectly such as by chits at the door, contributions, whatsoever. Keg beer is not permitted at any event. 

No live-flame candles/lamps/etc. may be used.

A required State Police Detail is arranged for by the club  charged to the renter at the current 'block' rate of $193.60 for zero through four hours or $387.20 for four through eight hours. The renter supplies a separate check in advance made payable to the Massachusetts State Police for the appropriate amount. Police detail fee amounts/terms may be changed by the MA State Police. Functions may not block the BB&N Boathouse front door (red building at the end of the parking lot).

Caterers/bartenders are arranged for by the renter but must provide the club with a certificate of liquor liability insurance in the minimum amount of $1,000,000 naming the club as an additional insured for liquor/alcohol. A professional bartender must be hired if alcohol is served. Caterers must provide the Club with a copy of their certification as a Professional Food Manager. Caterers are also required to complete the 'Catering Registration Form' online for the City of Cambridge. All decorations, food, alcohol, trash and cooking or serving items must be removed from the CBC property immediately after the event by the caterer and/or the renter (ie take it with you). Trash bags are provided.

Liquor and food may not be delivered prior to scheduled setup time. All liquor and food left after an event must be taken away, not left at the Club. We cannot guarantee its safety, and we cannot arrange for a pickup at a later date. Accordingly, anything left behind will be disposed of.

The Licensee may cancel the Rental Agreement confirmed by the signed 'Confirmation-Security Deposit Form' and the receipt of the Security Deposit at any time but in doing so incur the Club's retention of the Licensee's Security Deposit per the following sechedule:

  • On or before 180 days of the Function Date, no loss of Security deposit;
  • Between 179 and 90 days of the Function Date, 33% loss of Security Deposit;
  • Between  89 days and 30 days of the Function Date, 66% loss of Security Deposit;
  • Within 30 days of the Function Date, 100% loss of Security Deposit.

Should the Club cancel an event, the Security Deposit and all other fees will be returned to the Licensee.

All fees/terms are those as of this date and are subject to change.

A Club Monitor is on hand for all events from opening of the building to the closing of the building.
