Join us on Zoom (link to be sent separately) — Please RSVP to Paperless Post invitation emailed on November 10.
The Rowing Committee will begin the evening with the dedication of 10 new boats. Followed by a presentation from CBC Member Joanne Barker.
Joanne has swum competitively for the past 10 years. She began with pool events like the 50- and 100-meter sprints, but soon added open-water races. Memorably, she swam, solo, the two-miles from Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay to a point on the city shoreline near the Golden Gate. In Boston Harbor, she and a teammate swan an eight-mile race out to Boston Light and back. She often swims across Walden Pond, even in cold November water that does not deter "ice swimmers." With images, Joanne will describe the beauties, joys, challenges, and even mortal hazards of open-water swimming.
